My server, continued...

I have discovered the problem with the powersaving and my HDDs... it would seem that my network was losing connectivity and when it lost connectivity, it destroyed my server.

My server and me

I have been trying to build up a small server at home for what now seems like ages!

I decided to build a server for two reasons:

Onboard RAID: what a joke!

I have run more tests on my four disks in RAID 0. What I have found is more crazy results!

Disk Array Benchmark

Manufacturers shouldn't be allowed to sell things that don't work!

TEC / Peltiers and the Heat they produce.

I have added a TEC / Peltiers menu item and added TECs and Heat

This article is a must if you're considering going with TECs. It tells you what you need to know but no one tells you!

I need to add a page on basic TEC parameters when I get time to explain what Qmax, Umax and the rest of them mean...

I have added significant information to this topic in the forums to make it easier for you guys to copy what I've done.

More flow, less noise. What more could you want?

Modify your fans to improve flow and decrease noise.

Read more about it in the forums.

Meanwhile, my server is still not working. I got a replacement motherboard and CPU but they doesn't seem to work. I don't get any picture on the screen. I have tried it with multiple components but it hasn't helped. My cheap server is starting to get expensive!

Orange, Orange, Beautiful Orange!

Orange... Thanks admin! Enough said...

I loaded up my site in IE 7 today and found some disturbing differences to Firefox... so now the logo looks nice in both.

More content has been added to the forums... This time it’s about how different block sizes affect hard disk performance when in RAID 0 configuration.

...and about dodgy on-board RAID not working as it should.

Right, I've added some more content to the forums

  1. I've created what I believe to be the most powerful SwiftTech 655 pump. Go see it in the forums.

    Water Pump

  2. I also posted my old quad TEC system. Why have one TEC cooling your CPU when you can have four? Read about it!

I'm still in the process of building a new server... it's got RAID 5 and Gigabit network. Well, I hope it will when it's done. I love playing around with PCs.
