I have decided to modify my drill press so it could be used as a milling machine. I have decided
to take this path because milling machines are FAR to expensive to buy. The first stage of converting a drill press into a milling machine was to devise a way in which the end mill (the bit) could be held at a specific height. Something drill presses aren’t good at. The conversion was quite simple. The drill press already had a grub screw in the side to prevent the shaft from rotating with the chuck. I simply replaced this with a bolt. I can now screw it in to prevent the shaft from going up and down. I also removed the spring system that normally pulls the shaft up ..
Apart from this I’ve been working tirelessly on my TEC calculator. I’m beginning to wish I hadn’t started !
